Anesthesiologists Salary

An anesthesiologist is a medical doctor that specializes in the the field of anesthesiology. Like most other medical careers, an anesthesiologists salary is based on a number of various factors including what type of setting he works in, the area where he works, and the years of experience they have been working in the field.

In most cases anesthesiologists who work in hospital settings usually make the largest salaries especially in private hospitals that cater to the rich and famous. However, there are a number of settings that an anesthesiologist may choose to work in including doctor and dental offices, and in the field of cosmetology.

Anesthesiologists work with patients both before and after surgery and well as during the surgery itself. They need to speak with patients and determine what type of anesthesia is best for that patient, then monitor not only the administration of anesthesia during surgery, but also the patients vital signs to make sure that the patient is holding up during the procedure. They are also involved somewhat in after surgery care to ensure that the patient comes out of the anesthesia safely and with no after effects.

Anesthesiologists also administer conscious anesthesia and help with the pain management of a patient and often work in the management of pain in labor and delivery. The anesthesiologists salary can start at just over $100,000 and run as high as over $377,000 a year depending on where you work and the number of years of experience this includes bonuses and profit sharing as well as actual wages. While the amount of pay often seems high one should remember that in most cases even with financial help most doctors including anesthesiologists spend years paying off student loans they needed to get their education. They also need to pay for uniforms and insurance including malpractice insurance which can take a huge chunk out that yearly paycheck.

While an anesthesiologist's salary can be quite high it must be remembered that salary alone is the full picture and one needs to consider the costs associated with the job as well as the amount of earnings. Considering the weight of responsibility that is on the shoulders of these trained professionals one does not go into this field simply because of the money. There needs to be a real desire to helping others and a dedication to the job that exceeds that of most careers.

So before, considering what an anesthesiologist salary may be you first need to consider whether this is really the right career choice for you.
